Flint 40B Is Free on OpenCode and OpenRouter
Recursive’s Flint is an open-weight coding model with 39.8B total parameters, around 2.5B active per token, and a 262K context window. It targets coding agents that explore repositories, fix bugs, implement features, and write tests.
Flint is available free on OpenCode (opens in a new tab) and OpenRouter (opens in a new tab). Free access may have rate limits. We couldn’t confirm availability on Command Code.
How does it compare with similarly sized Qwen 3.6? Recursive reports Flint scoring 54.9% on Terminal-Bench 2.1, versus 44.9% for Qwen 3.6. On SWE-bench Verified, the reported scores are 74.2% versus 73.4%. These are vendor-reported results, and testing conditions may differ.
Worth trying: compare both models on real repository tasks in OpenCode. Flint looks promising for free agentic coding, but test output quality and provider limits before making it your default.
